Triplar attend Institute for Family Business reception with Vince Cable
As active members of the Institute for Family Business (IFB), an independent, not-for-profit association supporting the UK family-owned business sector, Triplar’s Mike and Tim Rodwell recently attended the first Annual Reception of the All‐Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Family Business.
Among the audience of MPs, Peers and family business owners, Vince Cable, Secretary of State, praised the ‘responsible capitalism’ of family businesses and a 'culture of long‐termism', saying: "Family businesses by their very nature look to the long‐term and plan 20 years ahead, while some parts of business are very short term.”
This is certainly something we can relate to at Triplar having grown the business steadily over twenty five years. The event marked the launch of the IFB's UK Family Business Sector report which Dr Cable said gave a very good description of the opportunities for the sector. He also expressed his surprise at the size of the sector ‐ with 3 million firms, employing 9.2m people in the UK.
Welcoming Dr Cable, IFB Chairman Ross Warburton said that the APPG aimed to raise awareness of the family business sector and that this event was ‘an important milestone in achieving that vision’. IFG Director General Grant Gordon said that successive Governments had been pro‐family business, but there were ways that things could be improved including how the regulations on funding new business start‐ups with family money could be eased.
We will continue to support the IFB going forward for the good of all family run enterprises and, hopefully, the economy at large.
