Rolling Luggage - Airport shop fit
Triplar’s Terminal 3 Triumph
Rolling Luggage, luxury luggage retailer and part of the Tie Rack group, contacted Triplar in early 2011 for a refit of its Terminal 3 store at Heathrow Airport following a glowing recommendation.
Positioned landside at Europe’s biggest airport, the store would present a bit more to think about than the average high street. Airports can create issues as they often require stringent security checks of personnel and products and in ‘airside’ locations all deliveries first need to be sent to a consolidation holding centre and then booked in by telephone. This results in a reference number and a time slot for movement and set-up.
As the store was in a ‘landside’ location however, the project was superficially the same as any bustling shopping centre. However, there was an additional stipulation that needed to be taken into consideration; all deliveries had to be made out of hours, in a window from 11pm to 5 am.
The contract started in March 2011 and despite the restrictions, Triplar met every deadline. Existing fittings were pulled out and the whole store redecorated with new roller shutter and steel work sub frames to enable it to withstand blasts.
The furniture was custom-made by Triplar’s manufacturing centre and fitted in store; it included bespoke wall units, free standing fittings and a new cash desk finished in American Walnut. New ceiling and lighting detail was fitted as well as the reconditioning of the existing Vinyl flooring.
The sleek, luxurious look across the store was achieved in just seven days by a four-man team who even threw in a couple of night shift to ensure they were delivering the best possible quality and finish to the client.
Darryl Sweeney, project manager, said: “Stores and retail outlets within airport terminals need to have luxurious, high-end feel to attract shoppers. Working within the tight security and regulations imposed by airports makes the job more challenging – but I think the end results speak for themselves, and we returned a great looking store on time.”
